To achieve best results with your crops and make sure all your hard work pays off, you need to know how to properly grow crops and increase soil fertility. These are fundamental elements of farming directly related to fruitful harvest. Harvesting is the process of gathering mature crops and marks the end of the growing season. If you have a small garden, you only need to know the few basics, but if you farm big fields, you’ll need more than just few gardening tools. For example, investing in quality equipment such as small farm tractors, organic seeds and fertilizers will help you maintain soil fertility and increase your productivity. Here are few tips on how you can have a better harvest.

Soil Preparation – Preparing land for planting is extremely important. This process is called tillage and it destroys any weeds present in the seedbed. The reason weeds need to be killed before planting, is to prevent them from taking the water and nutrients from the plants. Best time to tillage soil is between previous harvest and next planting. And the best equipment to use are small tractors and tillage-designed small tractors attachments such as plows, disk harrows and field cultivators.

Use Proper Equipment Investing in quality equipment will help you achieve a better harvest. For example, tillage requires the use of small farm tractors and various implements. Quality small farm tractors will help you prepare soil faster and more efficiently. But, just like any other farming equipment and tool, small tractors can be quite expensive. Luckily, there are many suppliers which offer small tractors for sale without putting your harvest in jeopardy. For instance, you do not need to invest in a world-known small tractors brand. You can buy a tractor from less known manufacturer such as Mahindra tractors. These tractors are durable, reliable and efficient and have long service life.

Watering – There is nothing more important than water. Keeping plants and crops well watered is one of the fundamental elements of better harvest, especially when it’s a drought year. Water helps plants grow as it supplies them with vital nutrients. The healthier the crops, the better the harvest. There are various watering systems available depending on the size of the field and type of plant or crops you grow.

Flushing – This is another crucial step to a better harvest. In fact, it is the first step of the harvest. It is recommended to do it a week (two weeks the most) before you harvest. Flushing is cleaning crops and plants from chemicals. Literally. A week before you harvest, feed the plants with pure water only to clean them from any chemicals you’ve used during the growth process.

Weeding Plants – Weeding is important in order to control the growth of crops. Weeds also need water and nutrients and will “fight” your plants for food. In addition, weeding help minimize and even prevent plant pests and various diseases since sun rays can get through the soil easier. Also, by removing weeds, you will loosen the earth and provide easy and fast entry for the water, thus improve the growth of crops. Weeding should be done at least three times. Plan the first five to seven days after sowing, the second seven to ten days later and the third four weeks after crops have been planted.

Know When To Harvest – The best way to have a better harvest is to understand maturity time for each type of plant. If you grow various plants, harvest the mature ones only. Each plant has different time of growing and you as a farmer must be knowledgeable about this.
