So, if you bought an antique chair, table, mirror, etc., that kind of looks damaged, follow these simple vintage furniture restoration rules that will immediately repair and bring your antiques back to life.

Vintage Furniture Restoration

Refinishing – This is the main and most important part of the vintage furniture restoration process. Vintage furniture restoration literally means repairing, but keeping the vintage furniture in its original shape and form. The vintage furniture restoration process is done on wooden, plastic, glass and metal antique pieces. On the other hand, refinishing slightly changes the original look of the vintage piece, so when a restorer refinishes the vintage wood piece, it means that he is trying to improve it, but will also permanently change it. Therefore, if you have invested a lot in your new vintage furniture or have it as heritage, do not refinish it.

Replacing The Missing Parts – One of the suggested ways for vintage furniture restoration is to replace the missing parts with new ones. This could be performed by a vintage/antique restorer who can professionally replace the missing parts through a mold process. The process is performed by pressing a mixture similar to clay to the original part to duplicate and make a mold. The mold is filled with a plaster and is then sent to a skilled woodworker who will make it look like the original part. The replacing parts of the vintage furniture must match the originals.

DIY Repairing – If you do not want to undertake professional vintage furniture restoration, you can hide the flaws of your vintage piece with a walnut. Walnut helps cover the scrapers and dings in the wooden furniture. Before starting, clean the furniture surface and then rub it with walnut. You will immediately see the big difference since the surface will begin to darken.

Maintenance – In case you do not want to do vintage furniture restoration, leave the antique piece as is. You can just maintain the furniture by cleaning it from time to time with lemon oil. Put some lemon oil on a clean cloth and gently rub the surface. This way you will clean the antique piece, leaving it shiny.
