Small appliances are normally made out of sturdy materials such as plastic, metal, glass or may be a combination of the three. Although these materials are considered highly durable, they are prone to scratches if small appliances are cleaned the wrong way. Read on to learn more about how to properly clean your small appliances.

  • Always Unplug The Appliance Before Cleaning: Cleaning your small appliances while still being plugged into a power outlet can lead to an electric shock. Thus, for your safety, always unplug the appliance before cleaning it. Furthermore, in case any electrical component gets wet, make sure it is completely dry before using the appliance again.
  • Careful Choose Cleaning Products: Do not use any abrasive products or cleaning tools that can scratch the surface of your appliance. For example, steel wool, eraser pads, duty scrub pads, etc. are things you must avoid. In general, there is no need to use strong chemicals or cleaning solutions when cleaning your small appliances. You can effectively clean off any dirt, grime or grease with just vinegar or baking soda.
  • Cleaning Frequency: Your small appliances should be cleaned after each use. Also, cleaning of the exterior is recommended once a week and once a month (depending on the frequency of use) a good interior clean should be performed.
  • Exterior Cleaning: A microfiber cloth sprayed with soapy water or a soft sponge is all you will need to clean the exterior surface of your appliances. Also, use a disinfectant to clean the contact points.
  • Tough To Reach Areas: You can use a soft and tinny brush to clean all tough-to-reach areas of your small kitchen appliances.
  • Caution: Never submerse your small appliances in water.

By considering these cleaning tips, you will avoid grime and grease buildup, reduce odors, ensure the food you prepare tastes good, and improve functionality and life span of your appliances.
