From muslins and monitors to car seats and cots, shopping for newborn items can be overwhelming. But the truth is, a newborn doesn’t need a lot of things during the first few weeks or even months of life. Yes, we all know how adorable those two-inch Air Jordans are, but you can wait until your kid is big enough to walk before being them. However, you can’t pass on comfortable newborn baby clothes, like a few onesies, bodysuits, cardigans and bottoms for newborns, for example.

Onesies

Newborn onesies are simple, practical and comfortable newborn baby clothes that are super versatile. As such, you can use them as a base for all of your baby outfits or wear them on their own. You can get a couple of long-sleeved ones to dress underneath your baby’s clothing in colder months. Is your baby due in the in the height of summer? You can stock on a few tank onesies. These are great for wearing alone to keep your baby cool during warm weather, and can even serve as sleepwear.

Baby onesies come in sorts of adorable designs, but there is more than just the looks – you should also pay attention to their design and the material used. On that note, it’s always a better option to buy onesies with zippers instead of snaps. Choosing between these two might not seem like a big deal, but it can greatly affect your everyday routine. Changing a diaper (especially in the middle of the night) gets a whole lot easier with a zipper onesie.

In terms of fabrics, there is no doubt that you should opt for natural materials like cotton, for instance. Cotton onesies are soft to the touch, gentle against your little one’s skin and breathable. Keep in mind that you’ll need to change clothes multiple times. Babies can be messy (hello spit-ups and diaper blowouts). That is why having plenty of newborn onesies is always a good idea. If you get a minimum of seven onesies, you’ll always have clean ones on hand.

Bodysuits

Bodysuits are a practical snug-fit garment for babies and can easily become a wardrobe staple in every little one’s closet. They are versatile and can be worn either solely or paired with other clothing during the colder months. Tank bodysuits for newborns are great for wearing alone and will keep your little one cool and comfortable during summer. Simple t-shirt bodysuits can be the perfect base for many outfit combinations and are perfect for layering. Simply pair it with a pair of stretchy bottoms for a super comfortable daily outfit.

Style-wise, it’s nice to have a variety of bodysuits like ones in solid colours as well as ones in cute patterns. This way you can easily mix and match and create lots of outfits. Unisex bodysuits in neutral colours are practical and timeless newborn baby clothing that can be easily passed down to siblings, regardless of gender. Material-wise, again you should opt for natural fabrics like organic bamboo cotton

These are soft to the touch and can wick the moisture away from the skin, making them excellent at regulating temperature. What this means is that cotton and bamboo-made bodysuits can keep your little one cool when it’s summer and cosy when it’s chilly if layered up. Furthermore, bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic, making bamboo bodysuits the perfect wardrobe choice for little one’s sensitive skin as it does not cause allergic reactions.

Bottoms

Apart from bodysuits, you’ll also need bottoms to create the perfect newborn outfits. Baby leggings and pants should be comfortable, stretchy, and easy to put on and take off. Also, when choosing newborn bottoms make sure they feature a soft elastic waistband that is gentle and comfortable on little ones’ tummies.

You’ll find baby bottoms in a range of designs, from plain and simple to cheerful prints. Buy a few pairs so you can mix and match with bodysuits to create the perfect outfit. Considering babies go through one to two outfit changes a day, it’s a good idea to have at least three to four pairs of pants and/or leggings. Bonus: footed leggings come with built-in booties. Whether you’re going for sustainability or want the finest newborn clothes, you can’t go wrong with bamboo and organic cotton newborn pants. These are comfortable, consciously composed and free from toxic chemicals.

Cardigans

Cardigans are adorable and timeless newborn clothing, ideal for layering up. They’re also perfect for bringing home, taking adorable photos, and keeping baby cosy when you are out and about.

As already mentioned, your little one’s skin is delicate and prone to rashes and other skin problems. Therefore, it is usually best to go for baby cardigans made from soft, natural, and breathable materials. On that note, cotton cardigans are usually best suited for the summer season, while thick knitwear can be ideal during the winter.
