How To Maintain Large Cranes Wire Rope

  • Always wear gloves before maintaining or checking the condition of the wire ropes of the large cranes;
  • Wire ropes must be cleaned regularly with a brush in order to remove grease. You need to remove every dirt to avoid penetration of lubricants;

  • Do not use solvents to clean wire ropes because they can damage the textile or other synthetic components;
  • Inspect the wire rope over its entire length;
  • Check for proper sheaves functioning and the level of wear. A defective or damaged sheave can lead to premature wear of the wire rope;
  • Use the grease recommended by the manufacturer of your large cranes;
  • You should remove all wire ropes that show a broken strand, deformation, visible broken wires, kinks, corrosion, crushing, pleats, etc.;
  • Replace the damaged wire ropes with the ones recommended by the large cranes manufacturer;
  • When replacing wire ropes, you may need to break the drum in order to prevent too fast unwinding of the rope;
  • The new wire rope length must match the configurations of your large cranes and must cover all winding layers of drums.

How To Maintain Large Cranes Mobile Crane Transmission

  • In order to avoid transmission failures of your large cranes, stick to the filter and fluid maintenance schedule;
  • Transmission fluid lubricates, cools and transmits hydraulic power. The torque converter, bearing, clutches and bushings will not receive a sufficient supply of oil. An excessive amount of oil can cause it to aerate, leading to overheating;
  • Oil leaks mainly arise around the side of the transmission casing, the exterior oil cooler;
  • Always try to keep the transmissions of your large cranes clean and free of contaminants;
  • The oil cooler, drive shaft components and transmission filter regulator must be checked every 25 000 km;
  • Examine fastener tightness. Bolts with a defective torque may cause vibration. Stripped threads can lead to transmission removal from primary case replacement;
  • Regularly check the wiring harnesses and electronics.

Therefore, if you want to prolong the life of your large cranes and attachments, the most important thing to do is to follow manufacturer’ s pecifications for maintenance. Also, when replacing parts of your large cranes, always replace them with genuine parts bought from a reliable supplier.
